Get ready for spring sports
- Electronic registration for spring sports opens on Feb. 1.
- Student-athletes involved in a high school sport should anticipate practicing six days per week, including non-school days and Saturdays.
- Non-school days include teacher workshop days, winter break, spring break, summer break and some holidays.
- Individual head coaches determine the attendance policy, team placement and contest participation for their student-athletes.
- To be eligible to compete at the varsity level, students must be registered by the fourth Monday of the season.
- To be eligible to participate in tryouts, student-athletes must be registered before the first day of the season.
School district provided transportation for away contests is NOT GUARANTEED for SAHS ATHLETIC TEAMS:
End of day school routes take priority. Every effort will be made to secure transportation for athletic teams, but it may be impossible due to contest start times.

NOTE: District shuttle buses will provide transportation from Oak-Land Middle School and Stillwater Middle School to Stillwater Area High School. Transportation will be provided for student-athletes from SAHS to Mahtomedi High School and back to SAHS. Parents/Guardians must pick up their student-athlete from SAHS.

Golf - Boys

As a varsity sport at Stillwater Area High School, 16-20 students will make the golf team and players must score 90 or better to make the team, while 80 or better is a good varsity score in competition. Generally six players compete in a varsity match and six players in a JV match. There are 15+ varsity matches and 10+ JV/JV-B matches in a season.
The boys golf team has enjoyed recent success with conference championships in 2017, 2018, and 2019 while all three seasons included a section championship title for the team and a trip to the Minnesota state tournament. 2019 included Stillwater's first-ever Individual State Champion in Brock Winter.
A collegiate golfer for Stanford University, Coach Scanlon is in his 22nd season with the Ponies and lives locally with his wife Julie. A father of two Pony graduates, Scanlon's son Kyle is a PGA professional in Northfield, while his other son Konnor is an engineer and a marathoner.

Equipment Needed: Cleats or turf shoes, girl's lacrosse stick, goggles, and mouthguard.
There is a spot for everyone on one of three different girls lacrosse programs including varsity, junior varsity, and the B-Team. A fast-paced team sport that is played outdoors and involves hand-eye coordination, lacrosse includes lots of running up and down the field, a long stick used to pass or shoot a solid rubber ball.

Equipment Needed: Softball glove, softball pants, cleats, tennis shoes, water bottle. If you have them, also batting gloves, helmet, defensive mask, and a bat.
Additional team fee: $200 of fundraised money
As a sport with three levels including varsity, two junior varsity teams and a Grade 9 team, softball is a sport for Grades 7-12. Competing in the Suburban East Conference with 10 teams, the schedule includes playing each team twice, once at home and once away. The two ninth grade team and JV teams finish the season the third week of May, while the varsity season continues for sectional and Minnesota state tournament play through mid-June.
Grade 7 and 8 players who do not make these teams are redirected to the middle school softball program that takes place at both middle schools for Grade 6-8 softball players. This is a tryout sport. If you do not make the team, your participation fee will be electronically refunded.

Synchronized Swimming - Girls

Practice Schedule: 3-7 p.m. with end time determined by group assignment. Practice is 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on non-school days and Saturdays with end times varying by division.

Synchronized swimming has a long and successful history at Stillwater Area High School - and have been named Minnesota State Champions for the fourth year in a row in 2024! Synchro experience is not needed to join our team, however members should be good swimmers who are willing to work hard and have a lot of fun with their teammates. This sport requires a love of swimming, music, choreography, creativity, as well as stamina, athleticism, and dedication to a team. With a season running from March through May, the teams require daily practices Monday through Saturday, figure meets, routine meets, a show, the section tournament, and state tournament.

Stillwater boys tennis strives to create an environment where boys can build lifelong friendships and relationships, learn a lifetime sport, compete and achieve at the highest level, and have fun all at the same time. With a no-cut policy, the tennis program runs multiple levels of teams and competitions.

Equipment Needed: Training shoes, spiked competition shoes (not throwers), outdoor gear including hats and gloves.
Boys track & field has four levels of meet competitions spread throughout the season including varsity, junior varsity, Grade 9-10, and Grade 9 only. Competing in the Suburban East Conference with 10 other teams, most meets take place outside of the SEC. Most of the Grade 9, Grade 10, and JV teams finish their season at the end of May, while the varsity season continues with the section tournament and Minnesota state tournament through the second Saturday in June. Track & field is a six-day-a-week sport and athletes seldom miss practice, however after advance discussion with the event coach, accommodations can be made.

Ultimate Frisbee
The Stillwater Girls and Boys Ultimate teams will accept all-comers. New-to-Ultimate and/or first-time athletes, as well as experienced three-sport athletes are welcome on our teams. We do not hold tryouts, and value both attendance and enthusiasm as much as natural athletic ability. In doing so, we hope to help grow the base and popularity of the sport and the depth of our team.
This is an Independent Provider Activity not an MSHSL Sport. Games take place on Tuesday evenings for girls and Thursday evenings for boys.

NOTE: In Dec. 2022, the MSHSL Board of Directors approved Boys Volleyball for Emerging Status. Boys Volleyball will operate for the 2023-24 season in the spring and the season-ending competition to be operated according to its current rules. Teams will register with the MSHSL and students will be held to the eligibility rules the same as other programs in 2023-24. It will be an interscholastic sport beginning with the 2024-25 school year.
