Speech Team
Speech is the largest competitive extracurricular activity in the country amongst non-sports. The Stillwater Area team travels to ten meets in the spring, where students compete against students from all over the region, in an attempt to qualify for state and national championships. There are 13 categories for students to choose from, which are broken down into two main groups: competitive acting (humorous acting, dramatic acting, storytelling, creative writing, interpretive reading, etc) and competitive public speaking (persuasive, informative, current events, group discussion), so there is something for everyone. The Stillwater speakers are back-to-back Section 4AA champions for the first time ever. The team finished in the top 40 at two national tournaments in 2022 and is poised for an even stronger upcoming season. Head Coach, Joe Kalka offered, “I cannot think of an activity that better prepares students for life beyond high school. The skills our students learn propel them to success in college, relationships, and their careers. We offer a tight-knit, familial environment where students can grow as people while finding competitive success in the best state for speech in the country.”
